Just hang in there until the Weekend

Wednesday, April 27th, 2011

It’s going to be ugly for a couple days. Not like, torrential rain ugly… but definitely not bright and sunny either.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions (including from the paper!) about whether it’s ever going to warm up around here. Unfortunately it seems the consensus is that it’s not for a while yet. Still lots of cold air hanging around, lots of unstable air. No nice big high pressures. You can lay the blame squarely on the La Nina phenomenon which is weakening off South America (ie. the water off SAm is starting to warm) but the global weather pattern remains a traditional La Nina. And that means more of the same for us and more of the same frightening weather for the United States. Plus a good chance for a very active hurricane season down there too.

Hang in there though, we’ll get a break on the weekend.

And oh ya.

GO CANUCKS!

Perfect night for a Meteor Shower!

Friday, April 22nd, 2011

I didn’t even know there was a meteor shower this time of year. But lo-and-behold, April 22/23 is the peak of the Lyrid meteor shower.

Even better, it is a perfectly clear night in April. It truly can’t get any more unusual than that. So I hope everyone can get a chance tonight once the light leaves the sky to go out and find some shooting stars.

Should see 10 meteors an hour or so.
