More rain coming for Sunday night and Monday

Saturday, September 25th, 2010

We’ve been spared the bad dump of rain they got on the North end of the Island, but Sunday and Monday look to be the next big wet event of the fall.

Shouldn’t be anything dangerous, but should be more significant than what we’ve had over the past day or so.

Models say around 30-40mm Sunday night and Monday and there is a chance for gusty wind again on Monday morning and afternoon.

Keep the drains clear and the slickers at the door! :)

(And lets hope no major damage is done up north)

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall and Equinox

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

Ever wonder when “Fall” really starts? Most of us know that the seasons change somewhere around the 20th of December, March, June and September but it does fluctuate and it can actually be anywhere from the 19th to the 22nd of the month (in our timezone).

This is because the orbit of the Earth itself isn’t perfect and the tilt of the Earth, fluctuates in orientation to the Sun.

Luckily, Wikipedia has a handy table showing the equinox and solstice dates and times for the Earth. You can see it here.

The Fall 2010 equinox, will happen at 3:08AM on Sept 23rd Universal Time. Subtract 7 hours for us here and that makes the Equinox, and the start of Fall at 8:08PM tonight the 22nd.

So do enjoy what should be a very nice final day of summer. Then as you feast tonight, hopefully on the bounty of your garden, or someone elses, say hello to Fall.

In case you’re wondering, the winter solstice will happen on December 21st this year, at 4:38PM…. I wonder if we’ll have snow….

Oh, and the rain forecast has tapered off a little. No big monsoon this weekend, but still pretty wet.
