Interested in saving money on your Electricity Bill?

Sunday, March 22nd, 2009

I am!

Most of you likely know I’m into the whole Climate Change thing (not surprising given this website right?). I’m also very interested in Energy issues (Peak Oil, Sustainability, Transition Towns).

Well, my lovely wife got me a really great little device for Christmas called “TED” or “The Energy Detective”.

If you wan to know more, head over to my blog at MurkyView. You’ll be able to see the electricity consumption of my house, Live! It’s pretty sweet.

Oh, and back to the weather…. looks like we’ll get some more rain and maybe some wind on Monday/Tuesday. Fridays blast was definitely unexpected. I’m sure there are a few of my readers though that were secretly excited that there was finally some “action”. (You know who you are!)

Cheers.

Oh and by the way. If you haven’t already. I HIGHLY EXTREMELY HIGHLY RECOMMEND going here and downloading Internet Explorer 8. If your computer supports it, it is, without a doubt, the best version of Internet Explorer ever created. Please do download it. (It will make the whole website look the same whether you’re using Firefox, IE, Mac, or PC.)

Almost Forgot! Happy Spring!

Friday, March 20th, 2009

As of around 5AM this morning, it’s Spring!

Hooray! :+)

We ended up with about 35 hours straight of rain. Not too shabby! Hopefully that replenished some of the snowpack that has been so low this year. It likely won’t be enough to stave off a dry summer, but every little bit helps.

Looks like we’re in for a few days of variable weather, maybe some flurries in the mix, should get some nice sunny breaks on the weekend. Time to get out into the garden!

Oh, and I’m very excited to announce that I made a minor breakthrough in my own learning of all things web-ish. And so within a few days you should be seeing automaticallly updating weather information (without need for a “refresh/reload”) on this site. Hooray!

UPDATE Sorry for the downtime folks, the wind this afternoon caused a 30min power outage and my internet hardware wasn’t happy when the lights came back on.

The Good News though!

In the Current Conditions box you should see a “Turn Off Live Updates” link. From now on, the entire page doesn’t have to refresh in order to get new weather data!! You can turn the updates off and on if you want but really there probably isn’t much reason to. They are not onerous on your computer and only update every 60 seconds anyway. It’s just a little more transparent than it was before.

For now it will only refresh the latest information in the topbox. The data updates from the server every 60 seconds. I will extend the auto-refreshing to other things later on.

Have a great night! Might get some snow this evening/tomorrow morning.
