  • “There is no equivocation, It is fundamentally the pace of observations of extreme weather that makes it clear it is not natural variability.”

Those are the words of the lead author of a study released today by the US Government (not the IPCC) on Climate Change. This is another in a long line of extremely important studies showing just how severe our climate crisis is becoming and how fast we must act in order to avoid devastating consequences.…

  • Quiet week – Wild Rain in Vancouver

It’s going to be a fairly quiet week with reasonable temperatures and the odd rain shower here and there. Nothing serious. The interesting weather happened yesterday afternoon in south and east parts of Vancouver where over 90mm of rain fell in just a few hours! It will be interesting to see if any records were…

  • Top Three in Canada yesterday. Cooling off and wet this weekend.

What a day yesterday! We got a real taste of summer with an official high at the Airport of 29.6°C. This was 3rd in Canada to Ashcroft (which broke 30) and Lytton. These highs did not break the 1998 record (31°C). Here at Alberniweather we got up to 29.8°C and boy was it nice at…

  • Welcome to May! How about 29°C today?

It got up to a balmy 25°C yesterday both at Alberniweather and officially at the Airport. The record was 28.5°C in 1998 so we didn’t get there, but still not too shabby. Today will be even hotter though. Considering we have consistently out performed the forecast high by a degree or two every day we…

  • Not quite records and Port Alberni “A” station gone for good.

So close! The forecast for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday is still pretty awesome. Highs of 22°C , 26°C and 24°C respectively. This does approach our all time modern record (since 1961) for April which was set April 30th, 1998 when we hit 29.5°C. I don’t expect to get anywhere near 30°C tomorrow, so the April…
