I just woke up and tucked my kidlet back in bed… looked at the satellite picture here… and I actually don’t think we’re going to get much of anything today. It looks like the body of moisture is getting shoved right down the coast and won’t come onshore until Southern Washington.

What it *does* look like is that in about 2-3 hours, it’s going to get really freakin’ cold, and maybe a little windy too here, definitely windy later today in Nanaimo and other places.

We’ll see. But right now, I’m bucking the forecast and I’m going to say the only snow we’ll see is some lake effect on the East Island (location totally random)

Update: Almost time to get up for work… lol… any commuters in Vancouver on here? Looks like the only moisture on the radar (darker blue) is headed straight for downtown Van… arriving by around 6AM.

We won’t get any snow on the Island until that flow reverses direction with the Arctic front and pushes moisture onto us from the Strait.

OK, now it’s raining hard… i’m just gonna shut up now and let the real forecasters do their job. πŸ˜€

  1. Is it really? Thanks for the report!

Huh, well not a drop here in town. I will be pretty surprised if that rain holds eve and has a chance to turn to snow. It looks like its going to dry up pretty quick here.

Of course, with 60-90kph northeasterlys forecast for the East coast, that can blow in some cold air and moisture pretty quick.

  2. lol… we don’t usually get muh wind from the north, so i doubt it.

But ya it has started raining here now too.

  3. Hey everyone, just a quick note on driving conditions between here and Nanaimo.

There was heavy sleet in the sky from at the bottom, Alberni side of the Hump/Hwy4 all the way to Whiskey Creek. With a little wet snow starting to accumulate on the sides past Cameron Lake, check the Highway Cam, looks like the Hump is getting white!

After that, it was just raining. Will be another couple hours at least before it every cools down enough for there to be snow in the City, but be careful on those mountain passes. Especially the Hump, and Sutton Pass and later in the afternoon, the Malahat.

  4. Accident on the Hump 8:45am, ambulance and police cars. Traffic seems to be moving though. Lots of snow coming down on the Hump and Sproat Lake! Not in town.

  5. Yep, it’s over!

I think Mary Berry wins… she got it bang on, today at 10:30AM… I’ll take her more precise and latest guess as the one she was intending.

Mary wins…. a snow shovel from Canadian Tire! πŸ˜€

Mary if you want to come by and pick up your prize just send me an email at chrisale@gmail.com and we’ll arrange a time that works. πŸ˜€

    CONGRATULATIONS

An honourable mention goes to my wife who predicted today a few weeks ago. πŸ˜€
