New Marine Forecasts Added – In Time for Fishing Season

Marine Forecasts added

I have extended the Forecast scraper/viewer to be able to include the Marine forecasts produced by Environment Canada.

This means if you go to the front page you will see a new “West Coast Vancouver Island South Marine Forecast” box with the latest weather, wave and warning forecasts issued for our nearest ocean region. It looks like this:

This is something I’ve been hoping to do for awhile so it’s nice to have it come to fruition.  I’ll be adding to it actively in the next few weeks as I see more variations for wind statements, speeds, and other conditions that are worth highlighting.

Note that I have not added any code to deal with warnings. I anticipate that they will be formatted differently from the standard forecasts so they might look funny or break the widget temporarily if one is issued. I’ll keep an eye on it and try to get to it as quickly as I can.

I may also create a Marine page that will gather all the Forecasts for nearby waters in one place but I’ll only have the WCVI South forecast on the main page.

If you see any problems with it, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

As with all the other forecasts, they are set to update every 5 minutes so refresh your browser if you think they might be out of date.
