The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Centre is evaluating the threat. Currently there is no Watch or Warning for British Columbia.  Other parts of the Pacific and South America may be impacted.

I will update this post if anything major changes.  (There is a Tsunami Watch issued or something like that)

Note: In the event that a Tsunami warning is issued and the Emergency Response personnel deem it necessary the Tsunami warning system will activate with a loud siren.  The didgeridoo sounds are only for tests, exactly because it is a different situation.  You’ll know if it is for real and you need to head to high ground immediately.

Spooky timing… I just went to the first meeting in preparation for the big June 2016 earthquake and tsunami exercise and drill earlier today.  It was very interesting and it’s going to be a very comprehensive and impressive exercise.  It will be an excellent bit of practice for our local governments, first responders, citizens, and other “assets” coming in from all over the Province and country to help out.  The scenario will be for a “MegaThrust” Earthquake and resulting Tsunami impacting the City of Port Alberni and Alberni Valley.  Lets pray that the folks in Chile were prepared for this one and are managing OK.
