Campfire ban lifted across Vancouver Island.

The BC Wildfire service has removed all remaining bans on campfires.  The City of Port Alberni has also lifted their campfire ban within city limits.  Rules around sizes and composition still apply in the city so if you are not sure check the website (Fire Control Bylaw 4876 and 4906) or give the firehall a call anytime (250-724-1351).

The provincial fire picture looks a lot different from one month ago! Here was July 31st:

And here is Sept 1st.

Please still be careful out in the bush as there will still be some pockets of dry fuel especially just below the surface but in all, it looks like the fire season is done.

45th Annual Salmon Festival and Derby Forecast!

The Derby begins Saturday morning.  Head to www.salmonfestival.ca for all the info.

Anglers will be vying for 3rd, 2nd, and 1st place prizes of $1,000, $2,000 and $5,000 each day Saturday, Sunday and Monday and the largest fish of the weekend will get a bonus of $5,000 for a total of $10,000 for that lucky person!

Friday Night Fireworks

It will be chilly but it should stay dry for the fireworks tonight.  They are at dusk on Victoria Quay.

Saturday Outlook

Port Alberni: Mainly cool and dry with just slightest chance of drizzle in the morning.  Highs to 20 or slightly above.

Barkley Sound: Drizzle most of the day but especially in the morning and calm variable winds changing to NW winds in the afternoon.

Sunday Outlook

Port Alberni and Barkley Sound: Dry and warmest day of the weekend.  Hopefully some sunny patches.

Monday Outlook

Port Alberni and Barkley Sound: Dry but a little cooler than Sunday.

In all, it should be good fishing weather and the salmon bake, bullhead derby and bands and beer garden at the Festival at Clutesi Marina in Port Alberni should stay pretty dry and pleasant all weekend.

Have a great weekend everyone. Stay safe and smart and tight lines!
