Official May Long Weekend Forecast – Not Too Shabby

It’s going to be a better weekend than originally thought!  Let’s hope the forecast holds!

Summary:

Things are looking a lot drier than a couple days ago!  It may not be a perfect hot weekend, but it won’t be too bad.  There will be some showers tonight, especially on the West Coast that will then move onto the East Coast Saturday afternoon and evening.  Sunday will see more widespread showers but it will dry up completely for Monday.  Temperatures look to be in the 15-20ºC range for highs and 6-10ºC range for lows.

Details:

The devil is in the details here is your nearly hour by hour forecast so you know when you *have* to put up the tarp or get the fire going.

Friday

Friday 1PM - Showers on West Coast
Friday 1PM – Showers on West Coast
Friday 5PM - Stronger showers on West Coast still dry elsewhere
Friday 5PM – Stronger showers on West Coast still dry elsewhere

Patchy rainfall will start on the West Coast right about now as I type (the above image is for 1PM).

Don’t expect any precipitation anywhere else except very spotty in the central island.

By 5PM showers will intensify on the West Coast and you will likely be wanting to make that fire and get the tarps up, but again Port Alberni and the East Coast should still reasonably dry.

10PM Friday night. Notice the line of showers. These will likely bring both wet and wind.
10PM Friday night. Notice the line of showers. These will likely bring both wet and wind.

By tonight I think we might see some blustery and rainy conditions.  Make sure you put out the fire before you go to bed, though it might get put out for you on the West Coast, either from the rain or the wind.

Saturday:

It’s not going to be a pleasant early morning on the West Coast as bands of rain showers look like they will sweep in pretty regularly through sunrise and the early morning.

12 Noon on Saturday - Rain ends on West picks up on East Island.
12 Noon on Saturday – Rain ends on West picks up on East Island.

By noon though those on the West Coast should get some relief but on the East Coast and Port Alberni there will be new showers to content with.

4PM Saturday – East Coast Showers intensify, dry on the West Coast

These will be strongest on the East side in the later afternoon.

It’s all fair though right?  This active weather will persist for the whole evening on the East Coast.  It should stay dry on the West Coast.  Here’s the good news though.  It won’t last long.  By midnight Sunday it’s going to be nice and dry all across the Island!

Sunday:

Midnight Sunday - Dry!
Midnight Sunday – Dry!

Sunday will be the chilliest morning of the weekend with temperatures between 10ºC on the lowlands and 5ºC at higher elevations.  Brr…

But hey!  It’s should stay dry for the whole morning right until around 11AM or 12PM when showers will begin to blossom all across the Island.

Sunday Noon - Possible Showers for all!
Sunday Noon – Possible Showers for all!

They look like they will be mainly confined to the higher elevations but don’t be surprised if you get a shower or two anytime on Sunday afternoon and through the evening.

But here’s the good news, by the time you bed down on Sunday night the showers should be done and the stars might even come out!

Monday:

As fate would have it, Monday will be the best weather day of the weekend.  But hey 1 out of 3 ain’t bad right!?

Have a fun, safe and relaxing weekend everyone!
