UPDATE: Learn something new every day.

Was looking at the latest update on Arctic Sea Ice Conditions. Aside, very interesting report, they say the ice is moving differently this year due to the weather and it’s causing a less severe melting regime, however, the ice as a whole is all very thin, even closest to the North Pole.

But anyway.. what I learned was this little tidbit:

The direction of the wind is determined from Buys Ballot’s Law, which states that if you are standing with your back to the wind in the Northern Hemisphere, low pressure will be on your left, and high pressure will be on your right.

It makes sense, if you remember what direction low pressure systems spin (counter-clockwise).. but this is a much more practical way of figuring out where the “eye” is. 🙂
