UPDATES BELOW
I’m not in town so I don’t have 1st report but I’m hearing there are flames visible above the trees near the site of the fire at Shoemaker Bay across from Victoria Quay.

Anyone have any more info??

If you see a wildfire call 18006635555 or *5555 on your cell or 911 if it’s near the City!

The afternoon breeze is going to make the fire challenging. …. Hoping for the best….

UPDATE 1:
Apparently PAFD and Forestry service is on scene. No confirmation yet of severity of the fire. I have an email into the coastal fire centre to see if they will give me any info.

UPDATE 2 4PM
Avtimes has a report now saying there is confusion on jurisdiction and who fights the fire but it is being fought. The industrial nature of the land is causing problems as well.

UPDATE 3 5PM:
Received this report from the Coastal Fire Centre:
“The wind in the Port Alberni Valley is blowing steadily at about 25 km, which… is a usual wind pattern for the summer in the Port Alberni Valley.

The fire is about 1.5 Hectares in size, we have a Unit Crew working on the fire (20 crew) plus one officer, and the Fire Department has a pumper truck on site. We anticipate that we will continue to work on the fire until dusk, when the wind is expected to die down.

We will patrol the fire tonight, and will perhaps return tomorrow if the crew requires a more time to mop this fire up. ”

Here is a pic from above Alberni Elementary.
