I moved back with my family to Port Alberni in 2005 and started commuting to work in Nanaimo at that time. Evan Hammond started his work at the Peak just a year or two year before, so I’ve heard him on my morning commute ever since I came back. I also bought the technology for this website at that time and started the journey here as well.
My biggest concern for this website has always been that it is accurate and factual and part of what drove me to do that was knowing that local communicators like Evan would potentially be relying on information from this website.
Evan was a professional. He understood his role as a broadcaster and community member. He was careful to ensure information he passed along, including from me, was appropriate and accurate.
I valued that check very much and count it as a privilege and honour that Evan trusted the information here at Alberniweather.
I want to extend my heartfelt condolences to Evan’s family, to Dave and his other colleagues at the Peak, and to everyone he was connected to including the AV Bulldogs and every organization, business, and person he helped promote and celebrate in Port Alberni.
Sincerely
Chris
