You got lucky if you stayed up for the moon!

And you were on the Central or South side of town away from the Mill, or maybe even at the lake or on the Hump.

The moon did make some very brief sneaky appearances at the last minute!

These photos certainly aren’t anything like you’ll see from a telescope… but at least they’re proof small celestial miracles can happen in December in Port Alberni. 🙂

A few minutes after totality, the red sky is from the city, but this was the brightest I saw of the moon, still not clear enough for me to focus the camera on it though.

This was a few minutes later, less exposure, so less red fog but can see the red in the moon better.

  1. Chris, your determination is enviable. When I went to bed at 10:30 pm it was pouring rain, and I was sure there would be no moon! Way to go!

  2. It’s funny…. just before my wife went to bed at 11:30PM I pointed at a little spot on the satellite image and said jokingly… “look! There’s a little clear patch coming our way”

I swear that clear patch is what ended up over top of us for 45 minutes before the rain came back.

I’m paying for it now… made it to work without falling asleep… it’s going to be a slooowwww day though.

  3. Great pics, I too was asleep but my son said that he watched through thick fog to see it a hazy orange. On another note, WIND WARNINGS ……..for east & west island. Ripped off again!
