A special Sunday forecast!

Ironically, we may have already set a new short term (1995) record high at the Airport for December 1st. It’s 11° C here in town at Alberniweather. That bests the 9.6° C from 2008 at the Airport. We will see later what the Airport gets to for its high, it all depends on if the wind from the Inlet reaches out here.

By tomorrow, thanks to the “Arctic blast” that you can see pushing down the Island and into the Interior in the satellite picture, we have a forecast low around -5° C so we might set a new short term record low at the Airport.

It’s the transition and northerly or easterly winds that will give us potential flurries tonight and tomorrow morning, especially on the East Coast.

The Islandweather imagery already shows this transition starting as at this our, there is almost a perfect split between the north and west and South Island with northerly winds up reaching. By tonight we will be all blue.

We should get down near zero tonight which will give us a chance of some of the showers being flurries. Monday morning the East Coast will be under the influence of north and easterly winds cooling them down.

Around the same time the models show possible showers reaching onto the island near Nanaimo. The strength of the outflow winds will determine now cold it is and how likely it is that they fall as snow.

Be careful out on the roads. Expect anything. And as the cold air takes hold, expect black ice and plenty of frost.
