Webcam Movies up for the week… and the end of Snow Tires!

Hey everyone.

Well, Saturday and Sunday weren’t great, but this morning is sure looking nice! We should get some sun today and tomorrow and it might even get warm if the clouds don’t interrupt too much!

I’ve uploaded the rest of last weeks webcam movies to http://www.youtube.com/alberniweather. I am working on automating that procedure a little more so that its not as onerous a process for me on a daily basis… that way hopefully I can get the stuff uploaded daily rather than sporadically catching up.

Put those snow tires away! Barring a major reversal in the forecasts for the next month I think it is quite safe to say that we wont be seeing any more freezing daytime temperatures. The short, long, and extra long range forecasts** all show above zero readings right to the end of the month. It might dip to a degree or so above or below zero in the early morning hours, but I’m sure it will be pretty short lived if it gets down there.

You can count on a few more blustery, rainy days, but at least it will be warm! May Long Weekend and the unofficial start to summer is only a few weeks away!

**You can see the custom long range forecasts in Weather Reports, Custom NOAA GFS… “WQC” as the Code and select one of the GFS based models. I usually just get the Temperature (2m), Surface Pressure, and Accumulated Precipitation.

  1. Thanks Chris. That’s a great site. I visit it daily since you mentioned it a while back. The precipitation forecast is great for predicting when the rain will start and stop, and how much will fall in a given period.

  2. Your mother was driving back from Kelowna last May 10 or so and got caught on the connector and the Coquihalla in a major blizzard. We still had the snow tires on, call it blind luck or, more likely, laziness,, but it got her to the ferry more or less on time, albeit with rather whitened knuckles. Just a thought.

  3. it’s true.. thankfully, we’re not in the Interior, so I think we’re OK. I have a friend in Calgary who was complaining that it snowed there yesterday.

What a difference 1000km and two mountain ranges can make. 🙂

This is probably the part where I should say that I have no formal meteorological training and the opinions and comments you see on this blog should not be used as official advice in any way. Always check with official government sources for up to date and accurate forecasts.

There, have I covered my butt enough? 😀

  4. Yeah, I think so, Chris. We just issued storm and gale warnings for coastal waters this morning. I just hope those “warnings” don’t last long, and the wind/rain doesn’t reach Port Alberni – we’re coming camping on Thursday!

  5. Ok, so, we’re camping now, at Arrowvale. Had quite the rainstorm Thursday night, but the site survived. It’s nice here now, sun is shining, a few clouds, but mostly clear. The wind is blowing, but not hard, though a bit cold.

    Mike
