Winnipeg isn’t a common topic around here… but today it’s worth taking note.

Winnipeg is one of hundreds of cities in Central Canada under an incredible heat wave.

Winnipeg isn’t even the most extreme example, but because it’s perhaps the city best known for its cold in Canada, it seemed like a good choice.

Here is todays temperatures in Winnipeg* :
Red is the day high.
Blue is the day low.

Now check out the forecast:

And finally, the records:

Winnipeg beat the record since 1938 for March 18 of 8.8C (set in 2000) by an astonishing 12.2C!
(Beating a record by 2-5C is considered extreme)

Even more impressive, the forecast overnight low tonight of 14C will be very close to the alltime high for that day of 18.9C for March 19th. Or at least that will be the previous high for that day, because tomorrow Winnipeg is forecast to reach 25C another possible 6C extreme record breaking day.

I have little doubt that in hindsight we will look back at days like today and be able to say very definitively that these were due to CO2-induced Anthropogenic Global Warming and Climate Change.

The more nearterm cause is the jetstream, which is extremely ‘kinked’ dipping way south of us (allowing in cold air, and giving rain to San Fransisco), and driving far north over cental Canada allowing warm air to spill into that region. The same conditions are causing another tornado outbreak today in the Southern states around North Texas.

*”Todays Temp” might not show up in the link for a couple days. You can see it on the Current Winnipeg page here
