Stormy Weekend. Wettest Friday but possible wind Saturday.

As I type this on the bus into Nanaimo there is a beautiful orange hue to the eastern sky obscured by clouds.  Red sky in morning, sailor’s warning.

This is a day that that old adage will probably be valid.

Here is the rain situation over the next 3 days.  4AM to 4AM Fri/Saturday, Sat/Sunday and Sun/Monday.

Obviously the biggest concern is today, Friday.  In the next 24 hours or less we are forecast to receive up to 60 mm of rain (pink).  It will be interesting to see whether the morning model sticks to this or goes up or down.  Currently the heaviest rain is forecast around 4PM today but will last into Saturday morning.

Rain for the rest of the weekend will be in the 30mm range (green) both Saturday and Sunday but this is a little misleading because we should get a good break on Saturday afternoon between systems before the rain returns late Saturday night and Sunday morning.  It is supposed to rain all day Sunday.

Wind.

The whole island except our region and Victoria is current under a wind warning.  Ferries between Powell River and Comox have been cancelled this morning.  I would expect more cancellations today and later this weekend.

Here are the points of strongest wind through the weekend.

The top image is basically now.  This is the best chance for strong winds on the Island.  The second image is Saturday night.  This might not bring us any wind on the Island at all except the very north west tip, or, it could bring something more serious.  It is a strange low that is coming up from California and is forecast to strengthen as it moves north but is also forecast to say offshore.  It will be nice if it sticks to that forecast. 🙂

That’s it for now.  Happy Friday and have a great weekend!
