Even though I am on the shore of the Columbia River in Oregon (near Hood River), I have been hearing sbout the downpour yesterday in Port Alberni!

Sounds quite dramatic including videos posted on facebook.

it sounded to me like a localized thundershower type of event and the data bears that out thanks to our multiple stations in the Valley.

Here are the three graphs from the Islandweather stations for Alberniweather, Alberni Elementary and Maquinna Elementary.  Alberni obviously “got it”.  Note the scales are different so the bars are not proportional.

The official reading at the airport is only 0.8m.  This kind of thing is not unusual at this time of year, but it is always a bit of a surprise.

Love this kind of stuff.  Even when I am 2000km away. 🙂  feel free to post youtube video in the comments and Ill repost them in this post.  Ill be back Sunday.

  1. Wrote a paper for Geography 101 on microclimates in SF Bay Area, just didn’t know to what a great extent the same applies in a lot of coastal BC. We didn’t have the same level of sophistication in our observational tool kit in the fall of ’68 (I sound like what I am, a cranky old man!)
