Some areas should see a little rain this evening – Possible Thundershower Saturday for Comox, Alberni, valleys

It’s Raining!!

We have received a nice break from the heat. I know my garden is appreciating it!

As a reminder, here is the link for the City of Port Alberni water restrictions. If your water comes from the City (directly or indirectly) you should follow those guidelines.

Timing of possible rain showers

I am quite sure that if we do get rain, it will not be a lot. Though, it may come all at once. (which also isn’t great.

Light moisture is currently moving down the Island on the radar. There have been some reports of drizzle or showers in Campbell River.

Let’s hope some more shows up in larger quantities.

Saturday possibility of mid-Island / East Coast thundershower?

On Saturday the models have rain moving onto the west coast of the Island especially.

It looks like there could be showers in some areas on the east side but the central Island stays quite dry. It looks like the best we might get is a drizzle.

However, there is some hope for the Alberni Valley in the evening, but it might come in the form of a brief thundershower that starts in Courtenay, intensifies through the Valley, Qualicum Bay and Georgia Strait, and then lifts. See the progression below starting at 8PM.

With the ground so hard from lack of rain, an intense thundershower is not a great way to have that moisture soak in. It is liable to run straight off into the rivers and streams. So let’s hope it’s a little longer lasting than predicted, and hopefully no actual lightning!

Back to Sun on Sunday and Beyond.

The relief is short lived. We will be back to a mix of sun and cloud by Sunday and then back to full sun and temperatures near the 30ºC mark all week next week.

The drought continues.

I will have a monthly summary for both June and July up before the end of the weekend.

Take care and stay safe out there!
