It’s going to be an interesting weekend and actually into next week but we will focus on the next three days for now.

The chance for showers is rising as you read this. All parts of Vancouver Island *except* Alberni is forecast to get rained on. As you can see from the image, we are in what looks like a rain shadow.

So it is difficult to say how much rain we will actually get, but you will probably want your umbrella anyway just in case. It may also be blustery.

The fun starts Saturday when strong northwesterly winds should create a chilly but beautiful sunny Saturday. If you are so inclined, please come out to the National Day of Action at Harbour Quay at noon. It will be focus on Climate Change and affects on our communities as the annual climate change conference is happening right now in Poland. It will also be a place to donate to victims of Super Typhoon Haiyan. National event page here, Facebook event here.

Once the sun sets Saturday that’s when things gets interesting. By 10PM, it may be at or below zero as you can see in white.

4AM Sunday there are weak bands of precipitation coming in from the west mixing with cold air.

I would not be surprised if we had wet snow showers on Sunday morning followed by rain as the cold air pushes out. There will likely be snow on the mountain passes and on the north Island.

Next week it looks stormy on Tuesday, but most interesting of all, we have a huge amount of cold air lurking to the north of us. It seems centered in the Yukon with very cold temperatures below -30°C… So if any of that cold air decides to make an appearance a little further south, we might get us some real snow, and someone will win a prize! 🙂
