Snow!? Improving for Weekend – Solar Panel at the ready

First I’d like to let ya’ll know that the Strike at VIU is over, which is great. I apologize for being fairly absent from here while it was on. It was quite an experience… and yes I do feel like we will be gaining something important from it.

The weather in the next few days could get pretty interesting. They are calling for a chance of snow. I personally don’t think we’ll get down below OC long enough for that to happen, but there certainly could be some white stuff accumulate at higher elevations and likely some blowing/pelting/splatting in the air. Drive safe.

Once we get through today and tomorrow, then things should steadily improve. There’s a good chance for some very nice sunny weather on the weekend and not much in the way of precipitation.

This is going to be a real boost for my solar panel which I just got on the roof last Sunday! I’m very excited. The Strike gave me a chance to finish off the frame holding the panel… so there it is, in all its glory.

The “Solar Power Potential” on alberniweather here (beside the current windspeed) is only an estimation, but if you’d like to actually see how much power my solar panel is producing just click the Solar Power Potential link and it will take you to a special website that tracks the energy literally coming and going from my house. To see my solar panel type -150 into the minimum and 0 into the maximum boxes and it will zoom into my panel. (Otherwise it gets buried by the red line, which is how much my house is using!)

You can also go here to see the total energy I’ve produced over time.

It’s only a very small part of the whole right now, but I intend on making at least 3 more panels which would give me up to 700W of peak power.

This video shows part 1 of how I built the panel itself. I will be uploading part 2 shortly which shows the final assembly, attaching it to the glass etc.
