UPDATED: Snow Falling across Island (except Alberni)

UPDATE 7:49AM

Sorry DRIVEBC – You are not Accurate for Highway 4 to Parksville. Just got back and it was crusted with snow and ice. It is only lightly snowing, but it is blowing and the snow is icing to the road.

VIU IS CLOSED FOR DAY CLASSES – Check the viu.ca website for updates on Evening classes.

Looks like that big blob gave us snow afterall!

End Update

A heads up.

It is snowing across Vancouver Island, some places more than others. (Not at all in Port Alberni).

If you’re headed to Tofino/Ucluelet, there is “Heavy Snowfall” reported to Sutton Pass on DriveBC as of 5:12AM

If you’re headed to Nanaimo, the webcam at 5th St. on the Parkway is showing snow falling and the Parkway covered.

Parksville, Qualicum, Courtenay and the Malahat are all showing snow.

Add to that it is still very cold, -5 across the Mid Island.

DRIVE CAREFULLY!

  1. Wierd!  That big blob has just about passed over us.  I have seen this before though.  It seems like, when a system at just the right height and speed passes over the Island from the NW to the SE, everyone else gets hit harder than we do.  I’ve noticed it with some of those big wind storms before.

  2. Now having said that, it’s snowing pretty good here right now with a breeze from the NE (I think).  Is this Straight-effect snow or incoming moisture from the Pacific?
