Rain tonight. Serious rain, and wind, Friday/Saturday

We haven’t had a good rainstorm since November… And really even since the end of September.

When we’ve managed to get any precipitation at all, it has been in the form of relatively weak fronts moving over the Island.

We will get another one of those weak fronts tonight.

The rain should start in the afternoon and last into the evening before clearing some Friday morning. Just a few millimetres are expected.

On Friday night the main and really only event of the official Monsoon season will happen.

Now that looks like a good old fashioned rain and possibly wind storm! Models show we should get between 30 and 60mm of rain over a 24hr period.

Expect the rain to begin mid afternoon, peak around midnight and be done before sunrise Saturday. There will also likely be some wind with this storm, maybe into the 50-60kph range for the Valley but it doesn’t look too bad. It might be worse on the East Coast. I would expect ferry traffic to be affected.

The more wind we get, the warmer it will be too. Puget Sound and Western Washington is going to get more wind, but is likely to see 10-12C. We should get to around 7C here. Not too shabby. The short term record is 10.8C.
