UPDATE: Campfire Ban lifted, temporarily. Rain this afternoon and tomorrow morning – Then warm weather returns

UPDATE 3PM: Sorry little late on this, but the campfire ban has been lifted in our area (Coastal BC) thanks to the rain today and expected overnight.  You should still be very careful in the woods as the rain may be somewhat localized and expect the ban to return probably within a week as we get back into the hot and dry weather this weekend and into next week.  Enjoy!

We have some much needed rain in the forecast this today.  We already got a little bit this morning, and more is falling now. Hopefully it’s enough to reduce our fire rating.

The map below shows we should get around 30mm by 5AM tomorrow morning.  Most of this will fall today, and then some more overnight.

By the time the weekend rolls around though, the warm and dry weather will return.  We could be into the high twenties or 30s by Sunday.

So lets hope we get as much rain as possible, especially in the Interior.  By Monday next week they will be back into mid-30s temperatures.

I’ll be leaving ridiculously early tomorrow morning to make the trek up to Kelowna to deliver the 18,000 strong petition.  The last time to sign the petition will be Thursday at noon.  I’ll mail the rest of the signatures to the premier’s office next week.

Lets hope there is good news that comes from this.  With both May and June 2014 being the hottest in the global records at NOAA and our neighbours in Washington State just going through its largest wildfire ever (including the loss of 150 homes) we will need all the help we can get.
