At this point the weekend is looking pretty dry at least for Saturday with maybe just a few lingering showers.

Rare Aurora over the Beaufort caught on camera.

An Alberni resident named Glassghost on Flikr captured a perfect shot of Aurora Borealis on Tuesday night as a strong geomagnetic storm produced aurora as far south as Virginia.

There are generally only one or two days a year when there is even a chance to see Aurora in our region.  And with the light pollution from the City it is even harder unless it is a very strong event like Tuesday.  Then there is the clouds issue, and the issue of staying up to prime viewing time generally past midnight.

In all, a great feat and a beautiful exposure with the stars.

Happy Thursday!

  1. Saw them right at dark up beaver creek.. Checked on aurora watch to make sure I wasn’t hallucinating 🙂 they were right overhead. Wish I could take a photo like the beauty you shared! My attempted photos were not even close to good. Wish we could see them more!
