Last night was a deluge we haven’t had since early January. And it won’t be the last.

Here is an interesting bit of info. Last week, in a conference call to emergency personnel, David Jones of Environment Canada said after November 1st of any year until the next year, the likelihood of there being a stretch of 5 or more days without rain in Vancouver is 5% based on historic data. We’ve had multiple prolonged stretches this fall and winter without rain. Clearly, not normal.

So it is really great news that this week we are getting a whole raft of systems. Last nights heavy rains added up to over 57mm at Alberniweather. It may be a record for this day at the Airport. We will see in a few days.

Victoria is being blown around with some strong winds this morning gusting to 80kph off their harbour. We won’t see any of that as it should stay to the south.

The next system will come tonight.

We can expect at least another 10-15 mm. It should end Thursday morning before 10AM.

A stronger system will then come through early Friday morning:

There is more rain coming Saturday and Sunday and into next week. It feels like home again! 🙂

That should deliver another 30 mm and possibly some wind as well.

Finally this rain is delivering some much needed good news for the snowpack.

The Snow Water Equivalent at the South Island station has risen from 99mm to 188mm in the past few days. That’s still way below the 800mm or so that is considered normal, but it’s a start at least.
