Quick Note: SOPA Blackout Day Wednesday January, 18, 2011

This website will be participating in the SOPA Blackout Day of protest.

This is in response to bills going through US Congress right now that could greatly affect the privacy of all who use the Internet (inside or outside the USA).

As a result, tomorrow when you come to this page you will be presented with a blackout banner. You will still be able to click through to see the main site, nothing else will change.

Other major websites including WordPress.com, Google, Wikipedia and Mozilla will be taking part in some way in this protest.

For more information from a Canadian perspective check out Michael Geist.

If you wonder why you should care, consider this:

Under this law (according to Michael Geist at the link above):
Alberniweather.ca would be subject to all United States Law.
– As such, any activity here, including all comments, would be subject to scrutiny by US law.

The law in question is huge and complex, but I think those two points are good enough to warrant some action.

Cheers, and happy surfing.

Chris

  1. Hey Chris,

Sounds like if you have a .ca domain name you might be safe. At least I hope so, and I’m not quite sure how a US law can be applied in Canada. Anyway, am watching this with interest.
