Perfect Weekend for Butterflies and No7 Steam Train Challenge Run!

Are you ready for an awesome weekend?

The chance of rain has dried up for today (Friday) and the rest of the weekend looks mainly sunny and warm!

A couple great events you should check out this weekend:

3716224Saturday there will be the Butterfly Effect event.  It is a butterfly release at Canal Beach starting at 11AM. The Alberni Valley Hospice Society will be releasing over 300 butterflies!

It’s supposed to get up to a pleasant 22ºC Saturday afternoon.  Should be a perfect day at the beach.

Sunday is  the 4th Annual No 7 Challenge!  Click the link for more info.  You can still sign up too!  It is a 10KM foot race against a steam engine between the historic Port Alberni train station near Harbour Quay to McLean Mill National Historic Site.  Almost 200 people have signed up, and I’ll be on the train weighing it down to try to give the runners a bit of an advantage!  The race starts at 10AM.  You can walk the race too! 🙂

It’s supposed to get up to around 25ºC on Sunday afternoon.  It might feel pretty hot for those running so I hope they are well hydrated!

If you’re thinking of something a little cooler and slower pace, there is also the Alzheimers Walk starting from Glenwood Centre.  Register after 9:30AM.  Walk starts at 10:30AM.

On Monday we might approach 30ºC again, Woot!
