For the first time in 5 years, the wview server that connects to my weather station is running on a different machine! I’ve migrated it to a new 8 core Mac Mini with lots of RAM and bigger hard drive.

It’s not going to mean much difference for the weather data, though the database is now over 200MB with over 6 years of data in it, but it’s going to make a HUGE difference making the webcam timelapses. The old mini just couldn’t handle them and would often die half way through a movie. This one handles them without a hitch.

The old mini isn’t going to waste anytime soon though. It is still going to be the main webcam capture device. It can handle single images quite nicely and do double duty as a Windows virtual machine to handle the special SebecTec webcam software.

Now that the backend is happier, I can start adding some more features onto the website. Oh my, things are moving right along now! 🙂

And it’s going to be sunny on Sunday to boot! Woot! Now… to BED!
