OK… so I got the snow… I got the rain… but where the heck did that WIND come from on Monday night? Wow. That was a doozy!

We got up to 77kph here at alberniweather. It’s not actually overly strong for us considering the past 5 years but whenever it gets that strong branches will fly and the power goes out.

We also got 73mm of total precipitation (including snowmelt on the collector from the day). That amount of water in 24hrs, especially combining snow melt from recent days flowing into rivers and streams, inevitably leads to flooding. Add that to a combined tide and wind surge and we saw major flooding on 3rd Avenue with manhole covers blowing their tops on 10th.

Kudos to City Works crews for being out there in the mess all night closing roads and making sure people were safe.

We had a transformer blow in our neighbourhood and that took out my website for a few hours overnight.

Hope everyone else out there made it out OK.

The Pineapple Express will bring us some more potential for heavy rain and wind coming on Thursday and again on Saturday, with Thursday looking the stronger of the two but not as strong as Monday night.

Rain should start in the morning on Thursday and last all day… the wind should come in the afternoon and last into the evening.

And finally I would be remiss if I did not mention that the Beaver Creak Improvement District has a Boil Water Advisory in effect.

Here is the live BCID water monitoring graph.

The blue line is the light blue line is the Turbidity level that determines when a boil water goes into effect. 5NTU is the threshold
