Just got back from an unusually wet (except for Tuesday) stay in Kelowna! It looks things might stay a little wet for the weekend. The showers will be on and off all weekend. We aren’t likely to get over 20ºC any of the days and nights will be at or below 10ºC so make sure you dress for the weather!

On the bright side, there are no campfire bans but PLEASE BE EXTREMELY CAREFUL. There is a TON of dry forest out there.

Here’s the day by day forecast:

Friday mostly dry and cool – showers moving in overnight

There were some showers lingering around the Island this morning but that should dry up completely through the day. If you’re headed camping on the Island, you should be able to get where you need to go.

Showers begin to creep onto the island in the 5-8PM timeframe (likely the later end of that). The West Coast sees showers and rain in the 8-11PM period.

Rain Scale – Millimeters on top, centi-inches on bottom. (1024cin = 10 inches)

Wet Morning over the island on Saturday

It will be wet overnight and into dawn on Saturday across the Island except perhaps Victoria.

Showers should end before 8AM on most of the Island south of Port Alberni and Parksville but it will linger longer toward Courtenay and Campbell River. There are some very light showers sticking around Nanaimo and Ladysmith in that period.

Things dry out except in the mountains on Saturday afternoon. Beware of some localized downpours in the mountains.

Real Rain Invades West Coast on Sunday

Things get soggy on the beach around midnight Sunday.

Showers spread over the entire South Island between 2-5AM as the sun rises and continues into the 5-8AM period. This time there will be more rain on the Southern sections, including Victoria, than on the central and northern parts of the Island.

It may rain all morning long in Ucluelet and Tofino and the rest of the West Coast.

Things dry up in the afternoon, but we will probably see some downpours and maybe strong enough for some lightning along the mountain ranges.

It should end at sundown.

Monday Morning Dry – Showers Afternoon

The mid-range model says showers should end overnight Sunday/Monday so you can wake up dry on Monday morning.

There is another risk of mountain showers on the South Island on Monday afternoon but it is pretty patchy in general. The 24hr picture from 5AM-5AM Monday/Tuesday gives an idea.

Rain Scale – Millimeters on top, centi-inches on bottom. (1024cin = 10 inches)

That’s it! Have a great May-Long, May-2-4, Victoria Day Weekend.
