May Long Forecast! East side wet start – but then good!

Happy May Long Weekend! Here’s the forecast for Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday!  The general feel is that temperatures should be pleasant, there will only be straight sunshine possible on Monday, but there should also not be any significant rain, but there is a risk of getting wet, so have a tarp setup in case!

Friday – Warm but possible Afternoon Thundershowers.

You can see the patch of rain just to the southeast of the Alberni Valley in the image above. This is in the 2-5PM period. We might expect some thunder and lightning from this patch of activity and a little rain but as you can see the rest of the South Island is dry.  The activity should dissipate before sundown. Temperatures should get into the mid-twenties.

Saturday – East coast Thunderstorm – Possible Heavy rain

Saturday gets a lot more interesting if you are camping on the east side of the Island, particularly the Qualicum/Coombs area, Bowser, Nanaimo and Cowichan Lake.

Heavy pockets of rain will blossom around noon starting in the mid Island ridges and Lake Cowichan according to the model:

In the 2-5PM period, things get wet, and may include thunder though there is nothing on the models anyone between Nanaimo and Courtenay on the east side and around Lake Cowichan is likely to get wet but other areas of the Island stay dry.

The rain may continue into the night for east coast areas so be prepared!

Sunday, Monday (and Tuesday)

Thankfully for those on the east side, things dry out overnight Saturday and we will warm back up Sunday and get sunny and pretty hot on Monday (morning cloud notwithstanding).

Have a great weekend! Please be safe out there. Put out your campfires completely and be kind to your neighbours and the beautiful nature around you that we all love!

Happy May Long! 🙂
