I just ran through the records for March 31st, and it looks like our warmest since at least 1930 and a new official record.

The highest temps for an official Port Alberni station were:

22.2C in 1930 at the original Port Alberni city hall station;

18.9C at the ‘A’ station on the river in 1992;

and 18.9C at the Airport station in 2005.

So we’ve beat all those. The official high temperature at the Airport today: 22.7C

I was the warmest station in town, at 24.6C… Alberni and Maquinna Elementary got to 23.8C and 23.2C respectfully. So had there been an official station in town, it would have very likely set a bigger record.

The only blemish to this record break is on the last long temperature record from Beaver Creek which lists a mark of 23.3C on March 31, 1922 as the record for the day.

I am willing to bet, though, that if there was someone out in Beaver Creek with a thermometer today, they would have got over that mark. Anyone out Beaver Creek Rd, near Stamp Falls, got a temperature reading for the day? Let me know.

However, I think Environment Canada will be satisfied that we set a record on March 31, 2013.
