March 30 All Time Record Broken – Possible Record Today – Back to normal on Weekend

We, and many other locations in BC easily beat records yesterday.

The hot spot in Canada was unusual… Bella Bella on the Central coast took the crown!

In all, 26 of the 51 stations around the province listed on the EC website with historical records to beat, beat them, including Port Alberni Airport which, at 23.3°C smashed its record for the day set just three years ago (2013) at 19.9°C.

Looking back at the three long period stations at Beaver Creek, Port Alberni and Robertson Creek, this represents an all time record for March 30. The highs for those stations on those days are 22.8º C (1912/1913), 21.0º C (2013), 21.7º C (1930) respectively.  While these 3 stations have the longest records (64, 53, and 42 years respectively), just to be extra sure I checked all the other stations in history in the Valley none came close.

(Note: Cox Lake, being the only other EC reporting station in the Valley, may have gone higher than the Airport, however, as seems common these days, it has not reported any data for a couple weeks this month)

Alberniweather and the Islandweather stations in the City reported  high temperatures ranging from 22.6º C at Alberniweather to 24.6ºC at the Neptune station near Canal Beach.

More records broken today if forecast holds.

If we hit the forecast high of 24º C today, we will again beat an all time, all station record.  The record is 23.3º C from Beaver Creek in 1922 and 23.5º C at Cox Lake in 2013.

The UWash model agrees that we will be in the 22.2-24.4ºC range (72ºF-76ºF).

The heat will back off a little bit tomorrow as the forecast high goes down to 22ºC.

That would take us out of the running for more all time highs, but would still be well above the short term 19.9ºC record for April 1 at the Airport.

Threat of rain pushed back to Monday.

More good news, while the temperatures are going to drop back down to normal levels around 12º C on Saturday and Sunday, the threat of rain appears to have evaporated from the weekend forecast.  Instead, we have a weak system moving through Monday morning.
