Last Day to Guess when it will snow! Forecast updates. Rainy!

Go guess in the contest!

Today is your last day to guess in the snow contest! Get your guess in before midnight tonight!

Fixing forecast display.

You will notice the forecast you are used to seeing at the top of the page or on the sidebar is gone. It stopped working for some reason on Friday. It has been generated from a plug-in I created for WordPress a long time ago and that I don’t use anymore so instead of fixing it I tried to find an alternative.

Well it turns out there aren’t very many alternatives! I’ll work on it today and see what I can come up with. I may end up re-working my plugin to make it work better.

In the meantime I added the little EC widget with the 2 day forecast, a plug-in with the long range forecast scrolling, and the local weather warnings.

Rain in waves today and tonight.

There are rainfall warnings in effect for West and East coasts of Vancouver Island. We are into the first wave of this strong rain system this morning. Here is how it will progress in pictures from now to early Tuesday morning. These are 3 hour maps. Green and pink are 30-60mm in 3 hours (a lot!).

Rain Scale – Millimeters on top, centi-inches on bottom. (1024cin = 10 inches)

As you can see, the rain will taper off this afternoon for all areas. Inland areas will not be getting as much as the coasts in this first wave.

However, the second wave will come in tonight in the 7-10PM hour and intensify around midnight for the entire Island. Expect very heavy rain in Tofino and Ucluelet especially but it could extend to inland and eastern sections at times.

The rain should pass through by sunrise Tuesday. We may even see some clear breaks in its wake.

Wet week ahead.

There will be rain with breaks through the whole week. Though today’s rain should be the strongest until the weekend.

Happy Monday and don’t forget to get your snow guess in! 🙂
