UPDATE
Tsunami Warning now for Hawaii — No Update/Change/Warning for BC Stay Tuned to local news channels in case anything changes.

A Major Tsunami has impacted Japan. And Warnings have been issued for large parts of the Western Pacific. No watches or warnings yet for BC have been issued, but they may be.

_____________
A 8.8 Magnitude earthquake has occured off of Japan tonight. (They just had a 7.2 a couple days ago).

There is a Tsunami Watch issued for Hawaii and a Warning for Japan.

There is no watch or warning in effect in BC. They will be issuing more advisories in the next minutes/hours.

From the BBC

Japan issued its most serious tsunami warning, saying a wave as high as 6m (20ft) could strike the coast near Miyagi prefecture.

TV pictures showed a wave crashing into the Pacific coast.

The surge of water carried cars and ships as it surged through a coastal town.

This is exactly the type of report we would expect to see if a similar earthquake struck near us.

Again. No Watch or Warning has been issued for our coast. However the PTWC will be monitoring the situation and may still issue advisories.

I’m going to bed, so if you are up and about, keep an eye on the first two links above.
