Earth is a reltively closed system.  If you put more energy in, you get more energy out. We are seeing the demonstration of that basic principle now around the world.

Today, we have poor Air Quality due to wildfire smoke from fires in the forests all over the Pacific Northwest.

The ferocity and expanse and vulnerability of the forest, is due in part, to human caused climate change.

It has literally changed the weather. Were it not for that smoke, we would have a beautiful, though unseasonably hot, sunny day.

We have a direct hand in that.

Today, the Leeward Islands of the Carribean, including tiny Barbuda (picture below from Radar last night), population 2000, are suffering a direct hit from Hurricane Irma.  It is the strongest Hurricane ever recorded in the open Atlantic Ocean with 300kph winds. It is being fed by abnormally warm waters… again, a result in part of human induced global warming.

We have a direct hand in their suffering.

Thousands are dead and millions have been affected by the strongest Monsoons in decades in South Asia (picture below from India)

It is a fact that humans have warmed the world, and changed the climate. That means we now have a hand in everything, every “normal” day and every “abnormal” day.  Our fingerprints are on it all.

I don’t remind you of all this in order to depress you, though that is a reasonable reaction, I do it so that when you hear someone, anyone, talking about ways to reduce our impact on our world, you support them. Hopefully as we all support each other in the same goal we will, eventually, make our influence on the natural world less burdensome so that we all can enjoy its wonder.

Take care of yourselves folks.
