How hot will it get on the Weekend?

Will it hit 25C and 26C on Sunday and Monday as predicted? Or are we just wishful thinkers? Or maybe we’re going to hit 30C as forecast for Kelowna and other Interior regions of BC.

A couple brave souls (Linda and Phil) have submitted guesses in the Summer Heat Contest for Sunday! Do they have a shot!?

In the records for the various Port Alberni stations, 1939 and 1973 stand out as the record years for all of the stations.

Beaver Creek and Port Alberni (at Eighth Ave. Elementary) hit 31.1C on May 13, 1939. They are the overall record holders for the day.

In the “modern” period (after 1950) 1973 is the year of record with stations at Robertson Creek Hatchery and McCoy Lake hitting 30.6C and Lupsi Cupsi Point (now Catalyst Paper) and “Port Alberni – A” at the old Somass River Airport setting records of 28.9 and 28.3C respectively for that day.

So Linda and Phil, if we break out of the forecast in a big way and challenge 30C not only will one of you win a prize, but you’ll have done it on a possibly record-breaking temperature! Cool!
