Flooding Continues – Will Peak Saturday afternoon/evening then again Monday/Tuesday

The rain should begin to taper off in a few hours.  Sometime after midnight Friday/Saturday, but the damage is done.  Flooding is continuing along the Somass River and the Tseshaht First Nation are in emergency mode and have evacuated some people as they sandbag to try to protect homes near the river.  Full Flood Information is Here.

If you need sandbags the City of Port Alberni has sand and bags in the City Works parking lot on 6th Avenue.

We also had some unexpectedly strong winds on Friday afternoon that knocked out power in many parts of Port Alberni as well as Parksville and Qualicum Beach.  According to meteorologists, it may have been due to a micro-burst of wind.

The outlook remains wet. The rain should finally stop by around 4AM Saturday morning but the break won’t last. Showers will begin again around 11AM.  You can see the remains of tonights front moving through Washington state at the same time.

Most of Sunday actually looks OK though! It will be dry pretty much all day if the forecast is correct!

We then have another 30mm coming at us for Sunday night and Monday and then more on Tuesday.

Take care out there. And if you can volunteer at the Tseshaht Admin building at 7AM Saturday morning. They need help.
