Finally! Some action on the weather front! Snow!

Big change in the forecast this morning!

We’ve gone from a slight chance of flurries over the next 5 days…. to a chance of flurries today… and Periods of Snow on the weekend!

I will have to check who would be up for Snow Contest winner, but it certainly looks like a winner could be crowned this weekend!

Looks like Colin has the best chance right now!

And now… as we all gaze out upon our February like sun drenched and crisp morning… lets all have a moment of silence for Toronto as they get pounded by a snowstorm. Muuaahaha

  1. Your snow contest rules saying “only snow produced by actual weather” counts but do you mean just observing snow, the ground visibly covered in snow or a certain amount measurable?

  2. Ready, set, Go! Here comes the snow!

But I’m not sure how much Chris. The GFS doesn’t call for any significant amount until Tuesday, when it is supposed to warm up some, but from the satellite shots it looks like the moisture is headed our way. Hard to call, but we’ll see!

  3. Ya that was a little tongue-in-cheek reference to snow machines. 😉

    The contest says:

“When will we get measurable snow at the Alberniweather doorstep (6th and Redford)!?”

key word is measurable. There has to be a consistent covering on the ground in order to get some sort of accurate measurement. So the threshold is likely 1cm or more.

And ya… I don’t remember a time recently when the short term EC and GFS forecasts have been so different, even opposite.

Obviously there must be a fairly unusual pattern happening for it to be so varied.

All we can do is wait and see!

  4. And my apologies to anyone trying to put in a last minute guess on the Snow Contest!

I just discovered my blogging software automatically closes the comments of all blog posts after 30 days in order to prevent spam.

I have extended that to 120 days now, so the comments are open again and you can put in your guess if you haven’t already.

Thank to Vuho in Texas for pointing that out to me this morning. 🙂

  5. Snow?!?! Good Grief! It’s cold enough here right now, we don’t need moisture to compound it! Heck, even my truck complained this morning at 0630 when I started her up to head for work, and she’d been plugged in too!

  6. O.K. I can’t take it anymore! The boredom weatherwise is about to drive me nuts.
North Van is at least experiencing “light snow grains”. Even that would be good enough for me!!!

  7. I don’t know folks, it looks to me like the forecast is coming into line with the GFS, which predicts very little moisture until the temperature warms up late Tuesday or Wednesday.

  8. Just nasty!!!!
But those of you with little ones need to come down to the lighthouse tomorrow at 2pm. Santa will arrive by boat just after 2pm. There will be crafts, music, hot chocolate, goodies and hopefully……….a flake or two to keep it festive.

  9. Sounds like a good snow squall just hit the Parksville area, and its sticking in some spots. And we got stars.. what the hell? 😉
