Wanted to let you know that it looks like Port Alberni set a new record for extreme low temperature for February 25.

The old record was set at Robertson Creek Hatchery in 1993 at -10C.

This morning the Environment Canada station at the Airport registered -11C.

So that makes it a record.

The record for February is -15C on February 19th at the old Airport on the river in 1986. And the alltime record low for Port Alberni is -22C at Robertson Creek on January 30, 1969.

As I said last night, there is snow on the way tomorrow. It should start around noontime and pickup steam through the evening. There is a possibility for up to 15cm by Sunday.

BTW: It’s unlikely we will break a record tomorrow morning. The current record for February 26th is -11.7 at McCoy Lake in 1962. We’re only slated to get down to -10C at the airport. You never know, but it’s doubtful.

  1. Chris I know Spring Break is still 2 weeks away and there is a lot going on this weekend and possibly this week. But what do the charts show for that week? We are planning on going away (on the island) but it is weather permitting.

  2. Great forecast Chris, it looks like EC has come into line with your predictions for potential snowfall of 5-10cm tonight and another 5-10 tomorrow. The US National Weather service has a snow forecasting tool, and it’s predictions look pretty consistent with that potential as well. Looking at the GFS, the temperatures will likely stay below zero most of next week!
