Over the next four days you may hear anything from Tsunami sirens to Fire trucks, search and rescue aircraft to heavy machinery.

This is all in support of the million dollar full scall earthquake and tsunami simulation happening from June 7 to June 10.  Here is the Alberni Clayoquot Regional District message on their website:

Exercise Coastal Response will be a four day, full scale functional exercise in the Alberni Valley June 7-10.

It will be based on a magnitude 9.0 earthquake resulting from a rupture of the Cascadia Subduction Zone off the coast of southwestern B.C. A tsunami is generated on the west coast of Vancouver Island minutes after the initial shock.

This exercise will be a mix of real-time activities and simulated situations involving certain functions, such as emergency operations, logistics, medical care, mass care, public information and operational communications. The ACRD will operate an Emergency Operations Centre for the four days.

There will be no disruption to services throughout the event.

“Surviving a Disaster is Everyone’s Business”

The government of BC is coordinating the operations with multiple stakeholders including the States of Washington and Oregon as they run through a sister exercise at the same time.

The exercise includes CFB Esquimalt navy base as well.

Stay tuned!
