As I type I am waiting for the 4PM forecast update to be issued by Environment Canada the 4PM update has been issued late. No doubt, they have their hands full what with the chaos that has been ongoing in the Fraser Valley today. They’ve got dumped on with snow with terrible consequences for drivers on Hwy 1.

The weather blogs are abuzz on the implications of a storm coming for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. And equally abuzz because the models have been very indecisive. I’ve been monitoring Cliff Mass’ blog and he is using the Snowmagaeddon hyperbole to describe the storm from a Seattle perspective.

The good news is the models seem to be settling on a solution, and that solution is less severe though colder and snowy for us, than it may otherwise have been.

Do not expect much in Alberni on Tuesday. However, there is a snowfall warning for Victoria, and with the outflow winds I would watch for snow anywhere from Courtenay to Duncan as well.

The most severe interpretation seems to be in the long range Weather Network forecast that calls for up to 30cm (1ft) of snow over 48hrs Wednesday/Thursday.

Environment Canada has not yet gone into details but doesn’t currently look as bad as that.

I do not expect anything major for us tomorrow, but I do expect at least a 5-10cm on Wednesday.

Stay tuned…
