Cluster of Earthquakes off Island today should make us pause

You know… if I was a little bit of a more nervous person, I might be double checking my grab-bag in case of a large earthquake/tsunami warning.

In the past 12 or so hours there have been 5 earthquakes clustered off the north coast of Vancouver Island.  The largest, a 5.7M quake, having just occured at 7:13PM this evening.

They are all at the same depth (10km), and they are all within about 20km of each other.  Are we going to get the “Big One”… probably not… but if we ever wanted an example of ‘pre-shocks’ to a very large earthquake, this might be a good example?  I do not know that for sure, I am not a seismologist but it sure makes you think.

So, maybe before you head to bed tonight, or when you get up in the morning, go double check that grab-n-go bag, or your supplies in the basement, or that your batteries and stuff are all charged up for your emergency kit.

It never hurts to be prepared, and Mother Earth seems to be sending us her own message today that we should not be lazy. Maybe it is her New Years Resolution for us? 🙂
