Clouds coming but Campfire Ban in effect tomorrow!

Heads up campers! Even though we are going to get a bit of a break from the sunny skies over the weekend, there CTV News is reporting there will be a Campfire ban in place as of tomorrow, August 1, across the entire Island except for the “fog zone” near Long Beach.

This means you cannot have a campfire. Period.

We will have a few clouds coming at us tomorrow and Friday, but by Saturday it should start to improve and Sunday and Monday should be back to mostly sunny skies. I don’t expect much, if any rain.

The ban will be listed here tomorrow.

The current Fire Danger rating is high. It is expected to stay there for the next few days. With a maximum of only 6mm of rain falling in our region though, the bush is going to be very dry.

I have been told that the Hawaii Mars water bomber has been sent to the Kootenays and is based on Kootenay lake. It is likely fighting the Perry Ridge fire.

Here’s a cool video I came across awhile ago. It’s of the Hawaii Mars, but not our Hawaii Mars. This is the Hawaii Mars that ended up crashing during WWII. A second plane called Hawaii Mars was built, and that is the one still flying today!

I will have the July summary up tomorrow. It’s been a record breaker in terms of dryness and sunshine in Victoria and Vancouver. It has been notable here too.
