Calm after storm – new features

Exciting day yesterday, hopefully people got through it ok. Looks like it’s going to cool off from our incredible 13.9C yesterday!

There are Boil Water Advisories for Port Alberni, Beaver Creek, and the Nanaimo Regional District. Full rolling boil for minimum 1 minute before consuming any water.

Some new features on the website:

  • all times on the website are local time now except charts
  • I’ve added Alberni Tide charts under Forecast & Reports–>Marine
  • I’ve added Wave forecasts in the North Pacific also under Forecast & Reports–>Marine
  • I have a friend working on some really sweet charts, there should be some samples ready soon
  • I’ve added a bunch more links under Forecast & Reports–>Weather Charts to various sources for satellite imagery and large area forecasts

  1. I really enjoy your website. I have turned many family members and friends onto it also.. We all thank you for giving us this site to help us prepare for storms and an idea of what they will be like and maybe how long it may last..
Thankyou keep up the good work :0)

We hope u and yours have an awesome Christmas :0)

  2. Chris, Env Can hasn’t posted their rainfall totals for yesterday under daily data. TWN says we got 123mm, but that 24 hrs might include some of the snow from the night before. Your total says 78 mm, but I guess that is Dec 02 @ 1300 tp Dec 03 @ 1300. Do you know how much precip we got in total for this storm?

  3. Thanks Donna, I’m glad you like it, have a very Merryv Christmas… I’m hoping for a white one.

    Bill:

The 78mm you see is what we got at my station. The snow started to melt at 8AM yesterday, about 15-20mm worth. Then the rest was rain.

We didn’t really get a huge amount of rain in town but we also had very strong wind all day, so the rain was inevitably underreported. I’d estimate we probably got about 70mm of straight rainfall but only about 50mm was recorded. The Airport likely got more as they were getting much less wind, and they’re closer to the mountains.

  4. Hi there,
I like your website. My hubby will be happy to find it. I noticed you state we should boil water for full 10 minutes and the city states 1 minute I think. Do you know which is right? And can you let us know when you find out? Thanks
