Another snow miss – Annual gathering of scientists.

Well. It was another miss,

Some areas got some wet snow… Maybe even enough to cover the ground. But Alberniweather HQ remains skunked for the season. Only a trace managed to stick to the ground, and it is now long gone after the rain. The reason from the miss? The system just wasn’t as strong or as long lived as thought. It fizzled out just as it started to get interesting. Oh well, there will be other opportunities for snow, I hope.

The drizzle will continue today before some more rain comes on Saturday. We look to be in a wetter pattern for the next week, until next Friday when we might get another shot at a cold snap. But as it is quite far out there, we won’t know for sure until later.

Scientists meet

One of the most important annual gatherings of scientists is happening right now in San Fransisco. It is the meeting of the American Geophysical Union of earth and planetary scientists mainly from the US but with cooperation from scientists all around the world. It is a place where you will hear about the latest research in everything from Mars exploration to Ocean research and Climate science.

Yesterday the NOAA presented their annual Arctic Report Card. You can watch the report and especially listen to their answers from reporters at the video below. It is a very interesting. They mention quite a few times the effect the Arctic melt is having on the jetstream and the intense research into that area.

These are the scientists in the field doing the work, including some from Environment Canada. There are no politicians or fake skeptics muddying the waters. Please check it out.

  1. Would have loved to listen, but the audio was completely muffled. Anyone else having that problem?
