CONGRATULATIONS!

– An honourable mention goes to my wife, who made her guess a couple weeks back and picked today.
– I think our next contest should be the first day that it hits 20C in the spring. We’ll start that one up in a few months.

  1. I will be in on this next warm pool!

but we should do a “next windstorm” or something like that lol, ill come up with a prize for the winner…

  2. Well, it only took about 20 minutes of below zero temps to ice up my wind gear Chris. Looks like I go up my tower tomorrow morning with the hair dryer and WD40

  3. aww no! Well honestly i don’t know if im any better off, i’m going to have to check to make sure mine is still free as well… the cups are working but it’s been NE for a long time and thats not a usual direction for me.

  4. Well, looking at my screen, I’ve had mostly NE the last 6 hrs for sure, with the occasional NW, so I’m thinking your ok. I should have wind speed data in about an hour I hope. Just going to the shop for my tools.

  5. Ya, I went out and checked it and it was twirling around fairly smoothly. It didn’t seem perfectly smooth, maybe a little gunk in the bearings or something… but still fine.

  6. I hit mine with the hairdryer, got it unfrozen, and then blasted the whole thing with WD40.

That _SHOULD_ be the fix for now. I did see a hack/fix for the WMR968 gear that added a small skirt just above the opening where the cups spin… gonna see if that makes a difference.

  7. Well apparently WD40 freezes up. Found some stuff called Fluid Film.. claims it doesn’t dry up, and isn’t water based.. so see what happens now. I’ll let ya know overnight if I recommend it! 😉

  8. How does your freebie hot water system work in these conditions Chris? (like today, cold but clear)

  9. I’m not sure honestly. I wasn’t home today. My wife said she didn’t notice the pump whirring, but it’s pretty quiet when the power is low, and that wouldn’t necessarily be a good indication of how hot the heater might have got.

Today did provide a great baseline though for a best case scenario for winter solstice solar potential.

    No more than 288W/m2
