Alberniweather now has Official Media access from Environment Canada

I’m very excited to announce that Alberniweather has been granted access to the special Media portal of Environment Canada.

This means we now have quick access to all the daily records, regional statistics, and immediate notifications that all news organizations receive.

As you can see by the blue highlight, as of this hour, Port Alberni is the cool spot on the Island. (7AM)

I would like to give a big shout out to Anne McCarthy at Environment Canada in Victoria who suggested Alberniweather be granted this access after I asked her about daily hotspots in BC and how to find them. Turns out, ‘there’s a web app for that’ and now we have access to it.

Anne has been a huge help for me since the first days I started this website. So Anne, if you are reading, thank you!

……

As for the weather? Look outside! It’s beautiful!

And it’s not going to let up anytime soon! You might want to watch for a little light frost though in the Valley as we are getting down quite low. On Sept 11 we actually set an unofficial record for the lowest minimum at 2C for that day since 1999 when we hit it was 5.4C.

Hope all of you can get some time out to enjoy this last shot of summer.

Our normal precipitation for August and September is 41mm and 65mm respectively. The station at the Airport only received 8.4mm in August and only 1mm up to Sept 9! (Sept 7/8 are missing). I got a downpour on Sept 10 but that still only captured another 1.75mm so We have had an exceptionally dry couple of months.
