A breather – then Round 3… As bad as Round 1?

Get out and enjoy the crisp sunshiny day today… (I’m counting on no fog forming of course!)

We have our next round of the pineapple express coming our way. It has a whole bunch of tropical miosture in it that has already thrown a warning up for the West Coast for rain up to 120mm.

Here, like Monday, we are slated to receive a total of around 70mm from the storm. It will come down hard and fast so even though we don’t have snowmelt to add to the situation, the rain could cause flooding by itself.

There is a very high tide of 3.8m (12.5ft) on Saturday at 12:25pm which puts it right in the middle of the rain storm though perhaps at the front of it, so hopefully the tide is going down as the rain and wind picks up but I would still be aware of potential flooding of 3rd Ave and other effects due to the nasty combination.

The wind on Monday got up to 77kph. Yesterday it got to 64kph (though an impressive 167kph was recorded on Solander Island near the north tip of the Island). The barometer isn’t supposed to get down as low as it did Monday or yesterday so I don’t expect us to eclipse the 77 from Monday, but again, the possibility is there for downed power lines and almost dating cancelled ferry crossings as the Strait will be a mess.

Enjoy the sunrise and sunny day today. Be careful of ice this morning. And clear your gutters and storm drains! 🙂

  1. That storm was supposed to hit tonight, but at midnight it’s still quiet out here. Rain is just starting up now. Might get nasty later though.

  2. Rainfall warning status in Port Alberni this morning.  This looks like it might be bigger than expected.  I’ll be down at Clutesi Marina at 12:30!
